About Ternion

Home / About / About Ternion

Ternion Corporation’s goal is to develop state-of-the-art computer-based simulation software that is available commercially.

Since 1989, Ternion® Corporation has developed commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) simulations and custom simulations tailored to specific requirements for the aerospace, defense, and transportation industries worldwide. All of Ternion’s simulations are developed using FLAMES®, Ternion’s COTS simulation framework for composable constructive and virtual simulations and interfaces between live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) simulations.

Humble Beginnings

Several years leading up to 1989, three engineers worked on the development and enhancement of numerous U.S. government-owned computer simulations. Through their experience with such simulations, these engineers became convinced that simulations of significantly greater capability could be developed and that the development was much more likely to be successful if it was undertaken by a commercial company without government sponsorship. Based on these convictions, the three resigned from their positions and in April of 1989, they founded a new company, Ternion Corporation. This company’s single technical goal was to develop software that would define the state-of-the-art in computer-based simulation and make this software available commercially. The result was the development of a family of simulation products now known as FLAMES®. FLAMES products have accomplished Ternion’s goal beyond the founders’ expectations.

Family Friendly Atmosphere

Being family-friendly has always been one of Ternion’s main goals. Some of Ternion’s family-friendly policies include flexible work schedules, no pressure to work overtime, 100% paid insurance, and paid maternity and paternity leave.

Having spouses and children themselves, Ternion’s founders established policies that allow their employees to put their family lives above work and, more importantly, a company culture that puts these policies into practice. They realized that when employees have fulfilling home lives they are more productive at work, more committed to the company’s success, and more likely to contribute to a positive work environment.

If you’re wondering, the word “ternion” means “a set of three.” The company name and logo are based on the number of people who originally formed the company.

Founded in 1989, Ternion Corporation is the developer of FLAMES and an expert in developing custom, FLAMES-based simulations for government and commercial organizations worldwide.
